A 1940 headline about this included “failure”, “liability when it came to offense” & “stout hearts no match for tanks”
Final Jeopardy Answer
The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Maginot Line
Final Jeopardy Explanation
The Maginot Line was a series of concrete fortifications, barriers, and weapon installations constructed by France in the 1930s to thwart German invasion and force them to manoeuvre around the fortifications. It was named after the French Minister of War André Maginot.
The Maginot Line was resistant to the majority of attacks. As a result, the German invasion of 1940 passed through the Low Countries and into the north, rendering the Maginot Line useless.
In the June 19, 1940 issue of the New York Times, a headline stated that the “Failure of French Military Policy Is Laid to Maginot Fortifications” after Germany successfully invaded France in World War II.
In reference to the Maginot Line, it stated that “Devised Purely for Defense, Line Proved to Be Liability When It Came to Offense– Stout Hearts No Match for Tanks“.
