In 1915 the assassination of President Sam brought Uncle Sam to this country, beginning a 19-year military occupation
Final Jeopardy Answer
The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Haiti
Final Jeopardy Explanation
The United States invaded Haiti in 1915 when President Vilbrun Guillaume Sam was assassinated, starting a 19-year military occupation. The US government defended the intervention on the grounds that it was necessary to bring peace and stability back to Haiti, which had been plagued by political unrest and bloodshed for a number of years. Resistance to the occupation, however, brought up more political unrest, economic exploitation, and violations of human rights. Although the occupation came to an end in 1934, its effects on Haitian politics and history have endured.
