Today’s Final Jeopardy Answer – Wednesday, November 15 2023
The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Jefferson Memorial
Final Jeopardy Explanation – Wednesday, November 15 2023
The Jefferson Memorial, located in West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C., stands as a symbol of American heritage and the legacy of Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States. The idea for the memorial originated in 1926, spearheaded by then-President Calvin Coolidge and other influential figures who wanted to honor the 150th anniversary of Jefferson’s birth.
The construction of the Jefferson Memorial began in 1939 and was completed in 1943 during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Its design, influenced by Jefferson’s own architectural preferences and the neoclassical style he admired, features a Pantheon-like dome and circular marble steps. The interior includes a 19-foot bronze statue of Jefferson, created by sculptor Rudulph Evans, and is surrounded by passages from Jefferson’s writings, including excerpts from the Declaration of Independence.
