The fictional group referred to in Today’s Final Jeopardy is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, created in 1983 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The group consists of four anthropomorphic turtles named after famous Renaissance artists: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello.

Initially, the creators considered using the name “Bernini” for one of the turtles. However, they ultimately chose Donatello instead, possibly thinking Bernini, a baroque artist, did not fit as well with the group’s theme of Renaissance artists. This decision aligned the characters more closely with the Renaissance period, which is marked by a profound influence on art and culture, contrasting with the baroque style that followed.
