Final Jeopardy Answer
The Final Jeopardy Answer is: Christopher Columbus
Final Jeopardy Explanation
The letter beginning with “on the thirty-third day after I had left Cadiz, I reached the Indian Ocean” is attributed to Christopher Columbus. Columbus, the Genoese explorer, wrote this to describe his landmark journey in 1492 when he set sail from Spain with the intent of finding a westward route to Asia but instead arrived in what is now known as the Americas.
While Columbus himself believed until his death that he had reached Asia, it was later realized that he had stumbled upon entirely new continents. His discoveries were pivotal in launching the Age of Exploration, during which various European powers sent expeditions to explore and claim lands in the New World.
